Tygerberg Hospital Hosts an Open Day

10 March 2010

Tygerberg Hospital will host an Open Day today on the hospital grounds, where various departments will have information stalls and material available to the public. The event will start at 10:00 and Radio Tygerberg will broadcast live from the venue.

The purpose of the open day is to raise awareness and educate the public about the various services that Tygerberg Hospital renders, and also to familiarise the public with the hospital. We also want to encourage community participation in our hospital, so that the community can take pride and ownership of the hospital by respecting the staff and the facility.

There will be tours to the various departments, as well as free health screenings where blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol can be tested. Professional medical staff will be available to offer health advice to members of the community.

Tygerberg Hospital provides a full range of generalist specialist services to its drainage areas, and offers support and outreach to Eerste River Hospital and Karl Bremer Hospital, as well as tertiary care to Paarl and Worcester Hospitals.

Highly specialised services such as cochlear implantation, obstetric high care, paediatric oncology and neonatal intensive care with capacity for oscillation ventilation are provided at the hospital.
