ESKOM hand over R50 000 to Western Cape Rehabilitation Centre (WCRC)

21 July 2010

On 21 July, Nandu Bhula, Eskom General Manager, Peaking Generation Portfolio, handed over a cheque of R50 000 to Jenny Hendry, CEO of the Western Cape Rehabilitation Centre (WCRC).

This donation will assist the facility board with arrangements for the wheelchair challenge later this year. Following the success of WCRCs first wheelchair challenge, which took place on 7 November 2010, Eskom decided to get more involved by donating.

The wheelchair challenge is an amazing initiative and Eskoms donation of R50 000 will assist with the purchasing and renting of equipment for the wheelchair challenge later this year. Eskoms staff has already put some names forward to volunteer, support and assist at the event later in November, said Ms Hendry.

The Western Cape Rehabilitation Centre renders specialised and high-intensity rehabilitation and community-reintegration programmes to persons with physical disabilities throughout the Western Cape. Since the opening of the WCRC, it has been involved in various research studies to identify the needs of persons with physical disabilities.

Clients with strokes, head injuries, spinal cord afflictions and amputations can refer themselves to the WCRC out-patient clinic for one-stop assessment and management purposes.
