Heart Transplant Patient Turns 80

14 October 2010

Margaret Dickson had a heart transplant in 1993 at Groote Schuur Hospital. The hospital is proud that seventeen (17) years later, on Friday 15th October 2010, Mrs Dickson is able to celebrate her eightieth (80th) birthday.

Margaret is the oldest female heart transplant patient at the hospital. Professor Johan Brink was one of the surgeons who operated on Mrs Dickson said the following; "Margaret was bedridden before her transplant but now she lives a normal life with no limits and this once again shows the value of how organ donations can make a difference in the lives of others."

Western Cape Health Minister, Theuns Botha, congratulated Mrs Dickson on her birthday, and said: "This lady is testimony that our hospitals remain among the best in the world. I am so happy for her that she has had 17 years of grace and wish her many more with her family and friends."
