It’s quick, easy and free to protect yourself against COVID-19 – get vaccinated!

18 September 2021

This weekend, the Western Cape Department of Health will be opening more sites for you to get vaccinated. On Saturday (18 September) there will be 43 vaccination sites open across the province with 24 in the Metro and 19 in the Rurals. And, should you miss this opportunity, there will be 12 sites operational on Sunday (19 September) – nine (9) in the Metro and three (3) in the Garden Route.

This weekend will also see more operational sites on a single weekend than ever before, as we increase access to vaccinations on the weekend.

Quick, slick, easy and free

Many of our vaccination sites have a quick, slick and efficient vaccination journey in place. It is also completely free. We know time matters, which is why at most of our sites, from the time you arrive, until you leave, and including the mandatory 15-minute observation period, you will be in and out, vaccinated and protected, within 30 minutes!

These 30 minutes can save your life, save your partner’s life, save anyone around you from getting severely ill and dying from COVID-19.

Save Our Summer

In providing an update on the weekly vaccination performance, we note there was a slight decline in the number of vaccines administered from the previous week.

We have the supplies and the infrastructure in place, and it has never been easier to get vaccinated so please take up the opportunity as soon as possible.

If you have been delaying getting vaccinated, because you might not have the time, it has never been quicker to get vaccinated, with more sites open on the weekend for your convenience. Please prioritise this next week so that you protect yourself as soon as possible.

If you are still unsure about whether you should get vaccinated, please do not hesitate to ask questions. Chat to your local healthcare worker or visit one of our clinics for some advice. Our data is already showing that the vaccines are preventing hospitalisation and death, with over 1 million people already fully vaccinated.

We need to get as many people vaccinated by December, so that we can Save our Summer and have a happy festive season.

This week’s performance against a weekly target of 200 000: 194 695

Monday: 35 217

Tuesday: 38 714

Wednesday: 40 421

Thursday: 38 424

Friday: 41 919

To put our numbers into perspective -  we have administered 2,475,569 vaccines resulting in 37,12% of the total adult population in the province already being protected, either through being partially or fully vaccinated. These are good signs, but we cannot let up now and we need to push ahead!

Of those registered who have received at least 1 dose we have managed to vaccinate:

  • 93.3% of the over 60s
  • 96.8% of the 50–59-year-olds
  • 87.2% of the 35-49 age bracket, and
  • 75.8% of those aged 18-34

The numbers behind the percentages

  • 411,493 of the over 60s are fully vaccinated and 67,183 will be coming for their second dose soon
  • 262,805 of the 50-59 olds are fully vaccinated and 89,722 are expecting their second dose in the coming days/weeks
  • 298,799 of the 35 – 49-year olds are already fully vaccinated with 274,404 having already received their first dose
  • 128,998of those aged 18-34 have already been full vaccinated and 257,598 will soon come back for their second dose

We need a collective response if we are going to beat COVID – get vaccinated, continue practicing safe behaviour and let’s support each other on this journey!
