Last patients discharged from Hospital of Hope

19 August 2020

The Hospital of Hope (at the CTICC), which has been open since 8 June 2020, has discharged and transferred its last patients on 14 August.

As part of its continued support for patients requiring admission, 13 patients have been transferred to the Brackengate Intermediate Care Facility, one patient to Groote Schuur Hospital and two were discharged home.

Between 8 June and 14 August, the Hospital of Hope admitted 1 502 patients with 1 421 discharged but sadly also had 81 deaths.

The 864 bed intermediate care facility has played an integral part in the Western Cape’s fight against the coronavirus. As the province sees a decline in the number of infections, deaths and people requiring admissions in the Metro, the facility will now be decommissioned.

Work is currently underway to decommission the site which involves various role-players to clean, prepare and transport equipment to various health facilities where they will be used to treat patients with various conditions.

The Brackengate facility will now become the Metro’s central coronavirus Hospital of Hope for intermediate care.
