The Western Cape Government Health's Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a total of 5 265 incidents including 103 incidents in red zone areas and 226 transport-related incidents, across the Western Cape this weekend.
The majority of the red zone area incidents occurred in the Mitchells Plain area in Beacon Valley and Tafelsig. To protect the safety of officials, ambulance crews are not allowed to enter red zone areas without a South African Police Service (SAPS) escort.

The top nine incident types included non-cardiac pain (839); weapon assaults (657); respiratory complaints (436); obstetric complaints (360); neurological complaints (295); vomiting/diarrhoea (289); physical assaults (253); abdominal complaints (248); and musculoskeletal complaints (235).
