Media Release: EMS responds to 6 326 incidents

The Western Cape Government Health's Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a total of 6 326 incidents in the Western Cape this weekend, including 101 incidents in red zone areas. The top ten incidents types included weapon assault (1 331); non-cardiac pain (880); respiratory complaints (401); physical assault (400); obstetric complaints (377); neurological complaints (307); abdominal complaints (292); musculoskeletal complaints (277); vomiting/diarrhea (276); and domestic accidental Injuries (237).

The majority of the red zone area incidents occurred in Beacon Valley, Mitchells Plain. In these zones, ambulance crews are not allowed to enter them without a South African Police Service (SAPS) escort.

Most patients were transported to the Worcester, Tygerberg and George Hospitals.
