New KwaNokuthula EMS Station Opens

The Western Cape Minister of Health, Theuns Botha, officially opened the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Kwanokuthula station today (3 October 2011). Aimed to service the Bitou district community of approximately 60 000 occupants, the station will service the communities of Harkersville, Kranshoek, Wittedrift, New Horizons, Kwanokuthula, Bossiesgif, Welcome Location, the Crags, Covie and the Natures Valley.

Western Cape Government Health has prioritised the establishment of health facilities in communities, locating them closer to communities, ensuring better service delivery and public accessibility.

"It remains the target of this provincial government to establish a health facility within easy travelling distance for every citizen that depends on our health services. In line with this vision, the ongoing maintenance of infrastructure remains a priority. The Western Cape provincial government's current investment in capital projects and upgrades are the most that this province has been working on at any given time," says Minister Theuns Botha.

Based in the heart of Kwanokuthula, located next to the Kwanokuthula Community Health Clinic and police station, the ambulance station was designed to meet the specific needs of the Bitou district community. The EMS station is equipped to handle both medical and rescue emergencies and provides a waiting room for patients being transported on the HealthNET (patient transport between facilities) ambulances.

Western Cape Government Health will officially open two more emergency medical stations in the Cape Winelands and West Coast Districts later in the year.
