Minister Botha Condemns Attack on EMS Vehicle

On 20 November 2013 at 6:25 an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) fleet manager at our workshop in Pinelands was en route to Cape Town from the Eastern Division via the N2 when he noticed protestors burning tyres, mobile toilet buckets and various household items on the highway just before the R300 turnoff.
 
The protestors were stoning and damaging several private vehicles passing by, but took particular interest in the EMS  service vehicle. They charged his vehicle and caused considerable damage to the bodywork, windscreen and wiper; and left several dents and scratches.
 
The EMS employee managed to flee from the mob but is severely traumatised. He continued to report the incident to the South African Police Services (SAPS) station in Site-B Khayelitsha and remained on duty.

The Western Cape Minister of Health, Theuns Botha, came out strongly condemning the attack. "Our EMS staff and fleet serves the community and the citizens of this province. They put their own lives at risk to save people's lives. They deserve praise and support. My door is always open for discussion on matters that people are grieved about. Violence of this nature is unacceptable and deserves contempt."
