New Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital CEO Introduced

Dr Matodzi Mukosi was today introduced as the new CEO of the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital.

Introducing Dr Mukosi, the Minister of Health, Theuns Botha, said: "Dr Mukosi has seven years health management experience at Tygerberg Hospital and his expertise will of great benefit to the paediatric units of the Children’s Hospital."

Dr Mukosi qualified as a medical doctor in 1992 and worked as a senior house officer at Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital in 1994. He commenced general practice in 1995 and worked subsequently as an aviation medical officer in the Department of Defence. In November 2006 he was appointed the manager of paediatrics and child health services at Tygerberg Hospital.

Dr Mukosi has, in addition, a postgraduate Diploma in Health management (Oliver Tambo Fellowship) and an MBA. 

On his appointment Dr Mukosi said: "I am honoured to be appointed as the CEO of Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital. I am thankful to the Department for entrusting me with the responsibility to lead this famous institution. Red Cross War Memorial Children’s hospital is well known for its world class provision of tertiary and quaternary health services to children and providing a platform for training of health professionals.

"My vision is to take the reputation of this institution to an even higher level by creating a friendly environment in which all staff members and stakeholders feel appreciated, valued and supported. When staff morale is high, patients will receive the quality care they deserve.”

Dr Mukosi says further that he aims to further strengthen good relationships with key partners such as the Hospital Facility Board, the Children’s Hospital Trust, the Friends of the Children’s Hospital Association and the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Cape Town.

Minister Botha thanked Dr Terence Carter and Dr Agata Krajewski for their respective roles as acting CEOs from April this year following the early retirement of the previous CEO, Dr Lungi Linda.
