Briefing on Funding Models for Mossel Bay and Helderberg Hospitals

2 August 2013

On Friday, 2 August, Western Cape Minister of Health, Theuns Botha, will host a briefing session on funding models for two new hospitals in the province – one in Mossel Bay and one in the Helderberg area.

The briefing forms part of Western Cape Government’s exploration into the possibility of more cost-effective and accelerated procurement models in respect of hospital facilities and accommodation. The briefing session will be from 13:00 till 15:00 at the conference centre at Lentegeur Hospital, Mitchell’s Plain.

In terms of the public notice that was published in various mainstream newspapers, proposed models should include the provision for or the right of use of suitable land for the relevant facility. It must also include proposals on the design and construction of a modern, environmentally considerate hospital facility, including all fixtures, IT connectivity, and an overall maintenance plan for the facility. However, all medical equipment and furniture will be provided by the department.  Proposed models should also include a gross area of 85 square metres per bed.

The closing date for the expression of interest in provisioning and funding of hospital accommodation in these two areas is 30 August 2013. For more details, please e-mail Michael Manning at Michael.Manning@westerncape.gov.za
