Clinics and medical facilities in Bishop Lavis, Khayelitsha Site B, Michael Mapongwane and Lotus River CHCs received a security boost, thanks to Public Works. Access control systems, proximity card readers, intercoms, public address systems, alarm monitoring and intrusion detection systems and CCTV coverage surveillance of key areas to the value of more than R500 000 were installed at these premises recently.

According to Tshepo Zikhali, who was part of the project team, safety of patients made it necessary to add security to the existing infrastructure. "We also had to minimise vandalism and create a better flow of patients through the building," he said.
