New Development at Conradie Hospital Site

23 July 2006

Conradie Hospital sold Minister Marius Fransman and Sam Tuntebele from the Iiza Elitsha Investments Consortium sign the multi-million rand agreement to create work and develop the land surrounding the Conradie Hospital premises.
The property that used to house the Conradie Hospital has been sold by tender to the highest bidder. Iliza Elitsha Investments will spearhead the development of the property for the purchase price of R80 million and a further R10 million that is earmarked for low-cost housing and the relocation of the Life Care Centre.

At a recent media conference Minister Marius Fransman announced that the development of this prime property will focus on the spatial integration of societies, so that the spatial distortions of the past can be rectified. More than a thousand housing units and a small office park and industrial unit will be part of the development.

"We would like to focus on bringing the people of the Western Cape closer to each other and by doing this we will create a better balance between the first and second economies of our province. This 22-hectare site can be classified as prime property, and it would be wonderful to see that the opportunities we are creating for entrepreneurs will make an impact on the Integrated Human Development Strategy," Mr Fransman said.
