Nolungile Primary School maintenance project complete

1 January 2021

In the 2020/21 financial year, 52 Department of Transport and Public Works education infrastructure preventative maintenance projects are underway or have been completed. It is well understood that it is more cost-effective to undertake preventative maintenance in good time than to undertake repairs at a later stage.

Such maintenance also improves the teaching and learning environment.

A R3m preventative maintenance project at Nolungile Primary School in Khayelitsha Site C was completed on 16 October 2020. The ablutions, roof and ceiling were repaired, bird infestation was cleared out, and pest fumigation was undertaken.

The project also provided short-term Expanded Public Works Programme employment and skills training for six people from the local community. The plumbing, roofing repairs, and carpentry training that these EPWP participants received is expected to help them find further employment.
