It is encouraging to see a decline in fatalities on our roads this week while we have been dealing with excessive traffic volumes in both directions as many people are leaving while others are returning to work.

I would like to commend our traffic officers who are working around the clock to make sure road users are safe. Our operations will continue across the province until school returns.

The Western Cape Government has been and continues to be dedicated to managing the spread of Covid-19, including through the close monitoring of public transport, personal protective equipment support for public transport during the first months of the pandemic.

I am continuing with our Covid-19 awareness and enforcement campaign and visiting intersections and road operations where I encourage travelers to follow the Covid-19 golden rules of hygiene for keeping safe and to ensure public transport operators and passengers comply with lockdown regulations.
