EPWP construction learnerships begins

1 December 2020

In November, 252 Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) participants who had completed six months of accredited training in a variety of construction related skills started six months of hands-on learning at construction industry sites in all five districts of the Western Cape (36 per district) and the Cape Metropolitan Area (72 learners). The districts are West Coast, Cape Winelands, Overberg, Garden Route and Central Karoo.

During this time, and with the support of on-site mentors, participants will learn about tools and building materials, learn to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, and help to build masonry superstructures.

Concor Construction, the company that was awarded the Conradie Better Living Model project contract, is one of the employers that has already placed six EPWP participants for six months of on-site learning. According to Ferdie Jacobs,

Deputy Director: EPWP Skills Development, “Learning a trade will open many doors for unemployed youth in the construction and built environment industries”.
