Pedestrian bridge at De Beers Avenue on the N2 main span lift

18 August 2020

The main span lift of the pedestrian bridge (No. 6030) at De Beers Avenue (km 42.1) over Trunk Road 2/1 (N2) was completed on 15 August 2020. There was no existing pedestrian bridge crossing.

The specific objective of Contract C733.07 is to provide a safe crossing point for pedestrians over the N2 at the De Beers Avenue intersection. The bridge consists of concrete ramps and stairs supported on reinforced concrete columns.

The foundations consist of both spread footings and piles. The main span is just over 48 m and is a structural steel arch with a concrete deck.
