Minister Carlisle Heads for Knysna in the Wake of Children's Bus Accident

23 August 2011

Robin Carlisle, the Minister for Transport and Public Works in the Western Cape, is heading to Knysna after a bus transporting children to school this morning drove into a dam.

It appears that a total of 14 children and the driver of the bus have died.

"This is an unspeakable tragedy and a bitter blow coming one day from the anniversary tomorrow of the Blackheath taxi crash that killed ten children on 25 August last year."

"I and Donald Grant, the Minister for Education, Dan Plato, the Minister for Community Safety, and Allan Winde, the Minister for Finance, are getting to the scene of the crash as soon as we can."

"We should be there by around 12:30. We will obviously be there to find out the facts, to assist wherever we can and to ensure that if there has been any negligence or responsibility that those found guilty will be savagely punished."
