New vehicle licence and registration fees 2020
In February 2020 the Department of Transport and Public Works gazetted the new vehicle licence and registration fee structure starting 1 April 2020.
The Western Cape Government relies on vehicle licence fees to:
- Build, upgrade and maintain the provincially-owned road network.
- Assist municipalities to fund the maintenance of their more strategic roads.
- Continue to reduce the maintenance backlog.
In 2018/2019, 20 km of gravel roads were upgraded to surfaced roads, 560 019 m² of surfaced roads were rehabilitated, 2 150 874 m² surfaced roads were resealed, and 173 km gravel roads re-gravelled.
