Construction of new Kwa-Faku Primary School update

1 February 2020

The Department of Transport and Public Works (DTPW) is in the process of building the new Kwa-Faku Primary School in Philippi East. This R64 million project is expected to be completed in 2020, if everything goes according to plan.

DTPW experienced numerous challenges on the project and is aware of the late delivery, but construction is currently under strict management and delivery is being closely monitored. The teams are assisting to minimise the overall effect without compromising quality.

Once complete, the school will provide accommodation for up to 1 240 learners, including 120 Grade R learners. Facilities will include:

  • A hall,
  • an administrative building,
  • grade R classrooms,
  • foundation phase classrooms,
  • intermediate phase classrooms,
  • senior classrooms,
  • a parking area,
  • a bin yard,
  • specialist classrooms,
  • a media room, and
  • a sports field.

A borehole will be drilled to reduce the municipal water requirements of the construction process.
