Minister Madikizela to launch sky banner during HSBC Sevens Rugby Series

11 December 2019

As part of the Department of Transport and Public Works’ plan to promote road safety and law enforcement initiatives, Minister Bonginkosi Madikizela will officially launch the Random Breath Testing (RBT)  sky banner campaign during the HSBC Rugby Sevens Series on Saturday 14 December.

As the festive season kicks in,  RBT teams will target events and venues associated with alcohol consumption across the province and focus on motorists who are planning to attend music and cultural festivals, parties, and sports events. This is to ensure motorists who consume alcohol rather make alternate travel arrangements instead of drinking and driving.

Random Breath Testing (RBT) units are fast-moving units that operate anywhere, at any time, and these units are active across the Western Cape. If you have been drinking, you can be arrested, then tested in a mobile evidentiary breath alcohol unit. If you are over the limit, you will face jail, a fine, and have your licence suspended.

During the launch, Minister Madikizela will distribute educational material to attendees of the tournament and advise them to use Plan B.

All media are welcome to attend the launch.

Details are as follows:

Date:   Saturday, 14 December 2019
Time:   10am
Venue: Green Point Traffic Circle, adjacent to Cape Town Stadium

There will be opportunities for interviews and photographs.
