Contractor development trainees graduate

31 October 2019

A total of 38 trainees graduated this month with a Contractor Development Programme (CDP) certificate from Department of Transport and Public Works Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP).

Participants had successfully completed a 10-month structured training programme for registered Level 1 Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) small building and civil engineering contractors.  The aim of the programme is to raise the CIDB rating of participants so that they can bid for larger and more complex contracts.  Monica Sompuku, one of the presenters at the graduation ceremony, is a CDP graduate herself and is currently a contractor for the Department. When she joined the CDP, she was a Level 2 contractor and is now at Level 4. In addition, she is running a successful business and is active in the “women in construction” initiative.  “Starting a business and keeping it profitable is not always easy,” she said at the ceremony, “but never give up”. Monica said she is proud to have been part of the growth of our economy by creating jobs and promoting women in business.
