Remedial works on Franschhoek Pass completed: Traffic allowed access

6 September 2019

After a rockfall on 22 June 2019, the Department of Transport and Public Works (DTPW) closed the Franschhoek Pass for safety reasons. The Department has adopted a phased approach to making the pass safe for traffic. Traffic is allowed to use the pass from 6 September 2019. Safety remains our utmost priority. Should there be any indication that the road is unsafe, the pass will be closed again for further remedial works.

The pass will officially be opened by the Provincial Minister of Transport and Public Works, Bonginkosi Madikizela on a date and time to be confirmed. Further details on this opening will be shared by the Ministry in due course.
