Construction progress

This 14-month project has been under way for six months and approximately 30% of the project has been completed.

Contract C1036 for the rehabilitation of 12.78 km of MR240 (the R399) between Vredenburg and Paternoster has been divided into five sections of approximately 2.5 km each. The contractor is currently busy with rehabilitation works on three of the five sections.

Possible delays

Weather

There have been no weather-related delays to date.

Materials

Material for these roadworks is sourced commercially and from cuttings.

No delays are foreseen.

Road and access closures

Three sections of road are closed to two-way traffic. Rehabilitation work is being done in half-widths, with stop/go controls enabling traffic to use the open lane. No accesses are closed.

General traffic accommodation

The road has been temporarily widened to facilitate half-width construction. Although stop/go controls are in place on sections under construction, traffic volumes are relatively low, and no problems have been experienced.

  • All materials are tested on site by the on-site soils laboratory.
