Minister Madikizela to create awareness of safe and responsible driving

Tomorrow, Friday 14 June 2019 Western Cape Transport and Public Works Minister, Bonginkosi Madikizela, will commemorate Youth Day by creating awareness of safe and responsible driving among young people at the Killarney International Roadway.

The number of people killed in road accidents each year is estimated at almost 1.25 million worldwide, while the number of those who are injured as high as 50 million. The latest national road traffic data shows fatal crashes in South Africa involve mostly young men in light vehicles and occur mainly over weekends.

During the event, Minister Madikizela will highlight government interventions aimed at introducing young people in the province to safe spaces to race. Demonstrations on the main causes of fatal crashes and on responsible driving will also take place.
