Calitzdorp/ Oudtshoorn roadworks near completion

9 April 2019

A Department of Transport and Public Works (DTPW) periodic maintenance project on 24 km of road on the R62 between Calitzdorp and Oudtshoorn is expected to be completed in May 2019.

Cracks, patches and potholes have been repaired, surfacing at intersections has been completed, and poor road signage has been replaced. Current work in progress includes shoulder rehabilitation, and the repairing of culverts, concrete drains, and terraforce walls. There are currently no stop/ go road closures in operation.

DTPW is committed to creating short-term employment and skills training opportunities. As of March 2019, over R9 million has been spent on procuring goods and services from targeted enterprises, while over 10 500  person-days of work have been created for people from the Oudtshoorn Municipality area.

The high-quality road infrastructure that DTPW provides is an important component of a safe and effective transport system, and an enabler of economic and social development in the Western Cape.
