Main Road 302 (MR174) between Malmesbury and Stellenbosch, and TR2102 between Hopefield and Vredenburg, will be affected by road and bridge works between September 2018 and July 2019. Signalled one-way traffic (stop/ go controls) will be in place to facilitate traffic safety during the construction period.

The 10-month contract awarded to Roadmac Surfacing Cape for periodic maintenance on 14 km of the MR174 between Malmesbury and Stellenbosch, and 17 km of the TR21/02 between Hopefield and Vredenburg, will require a number of half-width road closures.

The expected completion date is July 2019, if everything goes according to plan.

These areas are environmentally sensitive, and the contractor is required to adhere to the terms of a comprehensive Environmental Management Plan (EMP) for the project.

It is a provision of the contract that traffic must be accommodated with the fewest possible delays and the least discomfort to the public.

The safety and convenience of the travelling public are of utmost importance and every effort will be made to ensure that all temporary road signs, cones, flag operators and speed controls are maintained and are effective, and that courtesy is extended to the public at all times.

The contractor is required to make use of approved methods to control the movement of construction equipment and vehicles so as not to constitute a hazard on public roads.

The public is requested to be patient and exercise caution when using these roads during construction.
