Launch of West Coast integrated road safety plan

1 December 2017

Earlier today (1 December 2017), the West Coast festive season road safety operational plan was launched in Moorreesburg by the West Coast District Municipality in partnership with the Department of Transport and Public Works (DTPW), Swartland Municipality and others.

Speakers of the various law enforcement agencies emphasised the importance of integrated operations to curbing road traffic infringements and reducing fatalities and injuries. Joint efforts will specifically focus on public transport safety, drinking and driving, and speed control using Average Speed Over Distance (ASOD) equipment.

On the day, traffic officials conducted an integrated roadblock and tested vehicles using a mobile weighbridge. Road safety awareness activities also took place. The launch event was also used to raise awareness of the need to save water against the background of the Western Cape’s most severe drought in living memory.
