Minister Carlisle and Provincial Public Works Department Keep Service Delivery on Track

Robin Carlisle, Minister of Transport and Public Works, has announced that plans to provide temporary school accommodation, build a brand new school in Grabouw, and build a much-needed Community Health Centre in Du Noon are on track.

This follows after protests in Grabouw spilled into conflict, in response to the overcrowding at schools, and the critical need for improved health-care facilities in Du Noon.

Education Facilities Management, a branch of Provincial Public Works, has completed 15 new schools, each with a capacity of 1 600, in the last year alone. The department has confirmed that construction is on track for Grabouw's temporary school buildings, and that they will be ready in time for the new term.

"Thando Mguli, Head of Provincial Facilities Management, has shown once again why he is known as "second-to-none". He and his team's track record of delivery of schools, hospitals and clinics is nothing short of outstanding," said Carlisle.

Minister Carlisle also expressed his relief that after three years of wrangling, the National Department of Public Works has handed over the land required for a new school in Grabouw and a new Community Health Centre in Du Noon.

"After three Ministers in three years, I am very glad to say that Minister Nxesi has signed the transfer documents, which will allow us to build a brand new school and a brand new Community Health Centre," said Carlisle.

The temporary school will be handed over on 16 July 2012. The new Community Health Centre has gone to tender and will be completed by the end of 2013.
