Closure of R60 and Zandfliet road intersection

24 February 2017

Good progress has been made on a 36-month Department of Transport and Public Works (DTPW) contract to rehabilitate and upgrade various sections of the R60 and R62 between Ashton and Montagu through Cogmanskloof. Work on this R583-million contract is expected to have been completed in the third quarter of 2018.

The construction team is ready to build the southern half of the intersection of Zandfliet Road with the R60 in Ashton. The northern half of the intersection (at Unipack) was completed last year.

In order for construction to take place, the intersection at the western end of Zandvliet Road must be closed to traffic during March and April 2017. Motorists wanting to access properties along Zandfliet Road will have to approach from the other end (at km 17.3, across from Bruwer St).

In addition, the R62 between Ashton and Montagu will be closed from 11:00 to 13:00 on Thursday, 2 March 2017 to allow for the digging of test pits in Cogmanskloof. Motorists are encouraged to use the N2 as an alternative route.

DTPW is aware that delays are frustrating, but some delays during construction are inevitable. The high-quality road infrastructure that DTPW provides is an important component of a safe and effective transport system, and an enabler of economic and social development in the Western Cape.
