Gene Louw Traffic College – Moving with time

25 February 2017

Since it opened on 15 September 1989, Gene Louw Traffic College (GLTC) has trained many traffic officers, municipal police officers, examiners of vehicles and examiners for driving licences from the Western Cape, from South Africa more broadly, and from other parts of southern Africa.

In the 27 years of its existence, the college has been transformed into a modern and technologically advanced training facility. GLTC is responding to the ever-growing need for qualified, competent traffic officers through innovation and the identification and utilisation of best practice. The introduction of smart classrooms and plans for online applications and e-Learning have positioned GLTC as one of South Africa’s leading traffic training centres.

As a further education and training sector service provider, GLTC is helping young people to advance by providing them with opportunities to improve their skills.

Achievements

The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) provided independent verification of GLTC’s excellence by awarding it the Best Traffic Training Centre certificate in 2013.

Also in 2013, staff members were awarded the following certificates:

  • Best Education and Training Development Practitioner;
  • Most Innovative Idea;
  • Most Promising New Facilitator; and
  • Going the Extra Mile.

Courses

GLTC offers the Further Education and Training Certificate (FETC) in Road Traffic Law Enforcement, as well as short courses which include the Examiner for Driving Licences (EDL) course, and the Examiner of Vehicles (EOV)course.
