Closure of Du Toit Street at Lower Water Bridge

9 February 2017

Good progress has been made on a 36-month Department of Transport and Public Works (DTPW) contract to rehabilitate and upgrade various sections of the R60 and R62 between Ashton and Montagu through Cogmanskloof. Work on the R583 million contract is expected to have been completed in the third quarter of 2018.

As a result of the installation of the stormwater pipes in Du Toit Street, part of the road surface is currently gravel. During the coming weekend, the gravel surface will be sprayed with a binding product in an effort to reduce dust.

A section of Du Toit Street will therefore be closed to all traffic from 15:00 on Friday, 10 February 2017, to Sunday night.

It is important to note that no pedestrians or vehicles will be allowed in the construction zone. All school children or other pedestrians who usually cross the river using Du Toit/Eyssen Streets need to adjust their routes. Pedestrians can use Kohler Street and/or Church Street to cross the river during the construction period.

The high-quality road infrastructure that DTPW provides is an important component of a safe and effective transport system, and an enabler of economic and social development in the Western Cape.
