Speedsters stopped in their tracks

19 October 2016

Speeding drivers risk killing themselves and are a danger to other road users. This awareness was firmly in the minds of traffic officers from the Mossel Bay Provincial Traffic Centre who apprehended two speedsters in the space of two days.

On 18 October 2016, a driver travelling on the N2 near Kwanonqaba was arrested for travelling at 171 km/h in a 120 km/h zone. The following day, another motorist was stopped on the same road for driving at 164 km/h – 44 km/h over the speed limit.

Many motorists are guilty of travelling over the speed limit. Where there are cameras, speedsters are photographed and held accountable for their actions. Visible law enforcement helps to keep drivers within the speed limit and reduces the risk of crashes.

Traffic officers of the Department of Transport and Public Works patrol high-risk routes and do not hesitate to stop and arrest drivers suspected of speeding. These officers are saving lives, and their interventions support the Safely Home #SpeedKillsFacts road safety campaign.

Our congratulations to traffic officers Lennox Mthelelo and Eucine Koester for helping to improve road safety in the province.
