Temporary closure of Piesang Valley Road in Plettenberg Bay

13 October 2016

Piesang Valley Road in Plettenberg Bay will be closed between Castleton and Schoongezicht Estate until 19 November 2016 for emergency slip repairs. Traffic will be redirected onto other roads, and Marine Drive can be used as an alternative route into Plettenberg Bay.

A R76 million Department of Transport and Public Works project to upgrade the surface of Airport Road between the N2 and Kranshoek from gravel to tar is currently under way. The slip occurred approximately 300 m from the N2. Repair work entails the installation of gabions (wire baskets filled with rocks) to prevent further slippage, replacing the fill material, installing subsoil drainage, as well as moving electrical cables and a sewerage pipe.

The Department is aware that roadworks frustrate motorists, but takes all possible steps to minimise inconvenience. Once the project is completed, the 400 motorists using this road every week will enjoy much better travelling conditions.
