Update on Cogmanskloof roadworks near Montagu

9 September 2016

The installation of the new stormwater pipeline in Du Toit Street in Montagu between Long Street and the low water bridge will commence in mid-September. This forms part of the R583 million Department of Transport and Public Works project to rehabilitate and upgrade various sections of the R60 and R62 between Ashton and Montagu through Cogmanskloof. Work on the contract is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2018.

The installation has been divided into three phases to optimally manage traffic flow around Spar and Montagu Primary School. Phase 1 is scheduled to commence on 12 September and is expected to have been completed by 4 October 2016. During this phase, Du Toit Street between the low water bridge and the gate of the Spar overflow parking area will be closed to all pedestrian and vehicle traffic.

Pedestrians who usually cross the river along Du Toit/ Eyssen Street will have to use the Kohler Street or Church Street crossings instead. No access to the gates of the sports fields will be permitted. Two-way traffic flow will still be possible in the upper portion of Du Toit Street.
