Blasting in Cogmanskloof progressing well

1 September 2016

The blasting on the R62 between Ashton and Montagu is progressing well. A total of 90% of the required blasting at Aasvoëlkrans is complete, and the blasting at the western intersection of the R62 with Van Riebeeck Street will commence this week. Blasting will alternate between the two sites.

This forms part of the Department of Transport and Public Works R583 million project to rehabilitate and upgrade various sections of the R60 and R62 between Ashton and Montagu through Cogmanskloof. Work on the contract is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2018.

While blasting is under way at the western end of Van Riebeeck Street, traffic will not be allowed within 300m of the intersection. Traffic heading towards Ashton will be stopped about 600m before the intersection. Traffic wanting to travel to Montagu’s town centre will be redirected at Brink Street.

Construction personnel will be positioned at critical points to assist traffic. The Department appeals to the public to cooperate with these officers and to only park in areas indicated by these officers.
