Victoria Road Repairs Progress Report

18 March 2015

Victoria Road Progress Report and Programme for 18 March to 10 April 2015

Project Name: C958.04: Repair and Resurfacing of Victoria Road (Mr103) Km 2.1 to Km 4.75, Near Llandudno.

Construction Progress

All road marking and the installation of road studs (cats eyes) is complete. The realigning of the worst sections of the guardrail is still in progress and should be completed by the end of this week. The installation of liners and joint repairs to badly damaged storm water pipes have started.

Landscaping of the slip repair near the Llandudno turnoff will also be tackled, possibly next week.

Possible Delays

Rain could delay the installation of the storm water pipe liners and the landscaping of the slip repair.

Road and Access Closures

After completing the installation of the first storm water pipe liner with just a shoulder closure, it became obvious that we need to have lane shifts in place as the equipment required is very wide and occupies the whole shoulder plus a bit of the traffic lane.

Unfortunately, this operation can only be done overnight as sunlight and temperature affect the liner. The joint repairs will run simultaneously but only require a shoulder closure as the equipment for this operation is much smaller. All the necessary road signage and warning lights will be in place for the duration of the operation that will run every second night, starting around 16:00 in the afternoon running through to around 12:00 the following day.

This should not affect the traffic flow although it may have the effect of marginally reducing the speed of the traffic. A member of the contractor’s team, as well as their traffic manager, will be on site throughout the night to attend to any problems that may arise. The landscaping of the slip repair will require a lane shift during the daytime when it is being done. This will only be in place between 09:00 and 16:00.

Interesting Facts

There are 44 storm water pipe crossings under the roadway. Five of these require liners along their full length whilst 31 faulty joints require repairs. These repairs were determined by first cleaning all the pipes and then pulling a CCTV camera through them to record their condition.
