DCAS Lines Up “Tussen Grafte” and Hip Hop Dancing at KKNK

25 March 2013

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) has ensured that an award-winning theatre production and two dance troupes will be performing at the ABSA Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees (KKNK) taking place in Oudtshoorn from 29 March to 6 April 2013.

Redlight 7 will be taking the stage with its drama “Tussen Grafte” on 30 March at the Deurbraak Teater (Wesbank Skoolsaal). The production won an award at the 2012 Eden Drama Festival/ Die Burger Suidoosterfees.DCAS also made it possible for Versatile and No Limits, two dance groups from Beaufort West which featured in the 2012 African Hip Hop Indaba, to show off their talents. Their performances will take place from 1–6 April at the Top 40 stage, Straatfees and Ruimklets. This is the first time that DCAS-affiliated dance groups will perform at the event.

According to Moeniel Jacobs of the Cultural Service directorate, the inclusion of three DCAS beneficiaries in one of South Africa’s leading annual arts festivals is the product of a solid partnership between the Department and KKNK.

DCAS will be contributing approximately R100 000 towards the costs of the festival from its cultural tourism budget. Its relationship with the organisers has made it possible to provide emerging artists from the Western Cape with opportunities to perform on the national stage.
