New Council of Heritage Western Cape inaugurated

On 29 October 2016, Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport Anroux Marais officiated at the inauguration of the new provincial heritage resources authority, Heritage Western Cape (HWC).

The Council’s term of office will commence on 1 November 2016, ending on 31 October 2019, and the councillors will play a significant role in assisting the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) to identify, conserve, protect and promote the heritage resources for all the communities in the Western Cape.

Mxolisi Dlamuka, CEO of HWC, facilitated the orientation of the new Council in Cape Town on 28 and 29 October 2016 and introduced the following members:

Minister Marais stressed the value of their competencies. “I look forward to your expert advice and trust that together we will build a socially inclusive, creative and connected Western Cape,” she said.

Our heritage helps us to express our identity.  It is our responsibility to share and learn more about our diverse backgrounds.  Let us safeguard our rich traditions and customs for generations to come BETTER TOGETHER.
