Annual Museum Symposium – “Take museums from good to great”

16 August 2013

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) hosted its Annual Museum Symposium from 12 – 15 August 2013 in Rawsonville. Representatives from almost all of the 29 DCAS-affiliated museums in the Western Cape were in attendance. Participants had ample opportunity to share information and learn from one another about how best to overcome challenges and harness key opportunities.

A number of key operational and strategic matters were discussed in order to improve the services that museums offer. DCAS Head of Department, Brent Walters challenged those present at the annual Heads of Museums Meeting “to take museums from good to great”.

Director of Heritage and Museums Mr Andrew Hall announced plans for the new Cape Town Museum which will capture the unique history of the Mother City. It is expected to host a number of exciting temporary exhibitions next year linked to Cape Town being the 2014 World Design Capital.
