New Western Cape Language Committee takes up three year term

On Thursday, 10 February 2022 the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) welcomed the new Western Cape Language Committee (WCLC) through an induction meeting held at the Melkbos Oppiesee Cultural Facility. The Committee will serve its term from 01 February 2022 to 31 January 2025.

During the first session, the WCLC members were introduced to government policies and processes, which were presented by Western Cape Government officials. The focus here was to elaborate on what is expected of the Committee. In the second session, PanSALB presented the operational aspects, roles and responsibilities of the PanSALB WC Provincial Language Committee.

With a strong background in education and an undying passion for language and multilingualism, newly elected Chairperson, Ms Genevieve Lentz is serving her second term on the WCLC. Dr Alan Grootboom,  with an array of experience in the language field, also humbly accepted his election as the Deputy Chairperson.

The committee members are: Ms Genevieve Lentz (Chairperson), Dr Gregory Allen Grootboom (Deputy Chairperson), Mr Riaan Baartman, Mr Zukile Jama, Ms Laurian Lesch, Mr Micarlo Malan, Mr Kwanda Mkhize, Ms Stevlyn Vermeulen, Dr Esau Willemse and Ms Vanessa Reyneke.

The WCLC concluded its meeting with a resolution to take the promotion of language in the Western Cape to new heights.
