Trade and Investment
Growing exports, attracting investments, and promoting the Western Cape
What is Trade and Investment?
Trade is the exchange of goods and services between local and international markets, helping businesses grow and access new opportunities. Investment is the commitment of resources to businesses and projects that drive economic growth, create jobs and encourage innovation.
Together, trade and investment strengthen the economy, attract new opportunities and support sustainable development.
Our Mandate
The Department provides strategic oversight of Wesgro, ensuring alignment between policy, planning and the promotion of trade, investment and tourism. Through collaboration, monitoring and strategic coordination, the Department supports the delivery of the Growth for Jobs (G4J) priorities and contributes to sustainable economic growth and job creation in the Western Cape.
Oversight Focus Areas
Exports
Western Cape businesses can grow by exporting to African and international markets. Exporting increases revenue, expands customer reach, drives innovation and competitiveness, and helps businesses achieve economies of scale while reducing the impact of seasonal demand.
Investment
The Western Cape is a leading destination for investment, offering opportunities across key sectors for both foreign and domestic investors. As a gateway to Africa, the province provides an attractive environment for businesses looking to expand and grow.
Tourism
Tourism is a key driver of economic growth, creating jobs and supporting local businesses. Wesgro promotes the Western Cape as a world-class destination for leisure, business and events tourism, attracting visitors while showcasing the province's diverse experiences.
