Township Action Plan
DEDAT is working on the Township Action Plan project, a key part of the G4J Strategy, focusing on economic development in townships. This project coordinates efforts with other departments and aims to:
- Provide a community-led framework for economic opportunities in townships
- Facilitate access to government and private sector funding.
- Drive spatial transformation and economic accessibility by identifying business infrastructure models.
The project which is about to kick off in Mossel Bay, as a pilot, will implement an action-based plan in an identified township, co-developed with the community and stakeholders. This plan will include clear, actionable steps and timelines, focusing on both soft (skills, business support) and hard (structures) infrastructure.
The goal is to enable infrastructure in townships and promote systemic change by incorporating economic infrastructure into human settlements. Addressing tenure and title deeds will also give informal traders and businesses the confidence to invest.
