Our mandate

The economic challenges facing South Africa and the Western Cape are enormous.The Chief Directorate: Integrated Economic Development Services (IEDS) is working hard and relentlessly in the pursuit of an inclusive economic growth that benefits all in the Province.Within the Programme exists three sub-units addressing economic growth that involves working with a multitude of stakeholders, both municipal as well as the business sector. Enterprise DevelopmentMunicipal Economic Support Red Tape Reduction. Across all three units, the Programme is working diligently to support businesses, strengthen eco systems in all regions of the Province as well as improve the enabling environment to make it easier to do business through its interventions to grow the Province.Please click on each Unit’s sub-page to view their mandate, and what they’re doing to promote an enabling business environment for the creation of opportunities for growth and jobs.

Municipal Economic Services

The main purpose of the Municipal Economic Servies (MES) Unit is to promote economic growth and development of regional and local economies in partnership with key stakeholders by aligning LED initiatives with Government programmes. 

Red Tape Reduction

Red Tape Reduction

The Red Tape Reduction Unit (RTRU) has a mandate to reduce red tape in the Western Cape. It fulfills this mandate by improving the business environment and reducing the regulatory burden on businesses through improved legislation, processes, and communication.
