Creative Industries Hub

The Department of Economic Development is proud to partner with the UNDP on their timbuktoo creatives hub in Cape Town. Timbuktoo is the UNDP’s pan-African programme to grow and support technology start-ups across the continent with business development, access to finance and innovation support. Cape Town has been selected as the creative industries hub. Find out more about the initiative here.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in South Africa, in partnership with the Western Cape Government, the City of Atlanta, and other key collaborators, successfully hosted the timbuktoo Creatives Hub Showcase at the Homecoming Centre in District Six on 2 September 2025. The event brought together visionaries, policymakers, investors, and creative entrepreneurs to highlight Africa’s creative economy as a transformative driver of jobs, innovation, and global competitiveness.
