A journey towards achieving breakout economic growth
The 2025/26 financial year marked an important milestone in the Western Cape’s journey towards achieving breakout economic growth. It was the first year of implementing our new Provincial Strategic Plan (2025-2030) and the next phase of the Growth for Jobs (G4J) Strategy, a strategy that remains firmly focused on creating jobs, unlocking opportunities, and building a more inclusive, resilient, and competitive economy for all residents of our province.
The year unfolded against a backdrop of significant global uncertainty. Geopolitical tensions, disruptions to international trade, rising protectionism, climate-related risks, and rapid technological change created a challenging environment for economies across the world.
Despite these headwinds, the Western Cape once again demonstrated its resilience and ability to adapt, innovate, and grow.
Our province recorded economic growth of 1.4% in 2025, double the rate achieved in 2024, while continuing to outperform national labour market trends. An estimated 22 000 jobs were added in the year to the first quarter of 2026, reflecting the strength of our economy and the effectiveness of our partnerships with business, labour and civil society.

Annual Report 2022/23
During the 2022/2023 financial year, the Business Helpline Service achieved a 91% resolution rate from 519 cases, successful export trade agreements resulted in 906 jobs, the SMME Booster Fund supported 7 projects and R201 million was leveraged in support of experiential learning initiatives and skills development of unemployed youth.
