This document has been prepared as part CSIR-Environmentek's internal research programme. It is the result of the discussions held between the project team and various role players in the conservation and development planning fields during the period November 2002 - September 2003. These interviews focused on the Northern, Western and Eastern Cape Provinces. This document is circulated with the intention of stimulating debate and action on incorporating Systematic Conservation Planning into the IDP process.

Guided by the Western Cape Government’s Provincial Strategic Goal (ie. PSG 4) to “enable a resilient, sustainable, quality and inclusive living environment”, the WCDHS has developed an Informal Settlement Strategic Framework (ISSF) strategy document entitled ‘From Precarious Settlements to Dignified Neighbourhoods’.

This is a report from South African Community Based Planning Workshop, Bloemfontein held on 29-30 October 2002. The workshop aimed to inform municipalities and other development practitioners about previous experiences of community-based ward planning.

The Provincial Disaster Management Centre has been tasked to coordinate the Provincial Government of the Western Cape's response to the Xenophobic upsurge that engulfed the Western Cape on 22 May 2008.

This report reflects the status, progress and achievements on the national Integrated Sustainable Rural Development Programme (ISRDP) within the Central Karoo Nodal Point for the July Cabinet Lekgotla 2003 meeting.
