Youth Development Programme
When you’re young the world is full of endless possibilities. Everybody has the potential the reach their goals, sometimes all you need is someone that can guide you to the correct path.
Taking part in programmes that’ll improve your career prospects, show you how to become financially stable and teach you valuable life lessons can help steer you in the right direction.
The Department of Social Development’s Youth Development Programme gives people under the age of 35 the opportunity to develop their career paths, learn important life skills, and receive valuable mentorships. You’ll learn how to look after yourself financially, and how to become independent.
The Youth Development Programme provides a wide range of services, opportunities, and support to young people, between the age of 14 and 35.
The Youth Development Programme builds on the strengths of young people by developing their skills. This includes providing them with leadership training, mentoring, and helping them to transition through the challenges and problems they may experience in their daily lives.
Funded Non-Profit Organisations (NPOs) provide their own services through Youth Cafes and community-based programmes, while our own services are provided at the Department of Social Development’s Service Delivery Area Offices. NPOs and Youth Cafes determine their own programme content that mainly focuses work preparation, skills development and sometimes job placement.
The programme is done in a way that ensures social inclusion of most youth with a special focus on:
