Summary

Household Enumeration & GIS Mapping Study: Airport Precinct and Kosovo

The Western Cape Department of Human Settlements in partnership with the City of Cape Town and the Community Organization Resource Centre (CORC) conducted a household enumeration study in 11 informal settlements namely, Gxagxa, Vukuzenzele, Lusaka, KTC, Kanana, Barcelona, Europe, Kosovo, Tsunami, Thabo Mbeki & Hlazo Village which are located in the Cape Town Metropolitan Area.

The purpose of the enumeration was to understand the demographic and socio-economic profile of households in the informal settlements; to examine the level of services such as water, sanitation and electricity in each informal settlement; and to assess the human settlement need in each settlement.

The enumeration reports cover the contextual and historical analysis, demographics and socio-economic profile for each informal settlement pocket, key findings and input from communities in the form of ‘community voices’ that were gathered through focus group sessions.

The information and the enumeration reports produced will inform the human settlement need per household and inform the planning and design phase of the Southern Corridor Integrated Human Settlements project.
