Religious institutions invited to apply for youth safety programme funding 2018/19 The Department of Community Safety invites religious institutions (registered NPOs) to submit proposals for safety promotion programmes for youth living in high crime areas. The Department will support these activities at a rate of up to R50 per day per youth participant on condition that these activities run for at least 8 hours per programme day and at least one meal is provided for each participant every programme day.
1. Applications must be submitted on the prescribed application form, with the following documents attached: A signed copy of your organisation’s (a) NPO certificate, (b) charter or constitution, (c) latest 3 months bank statement, the (d) governance model & accountability structure of the organisation as well as (e) certified ID copies of the religious leader/chairperson, secretary and treasurer and (f) daily schedule of activities MUST be attached to this Application Form. 2. The target age of youth to be involved in these programmes are between 14 years and 20 years old. Other youth are not excluded but preference shall be given to the stated age category. 3. The organization must have a completed and signed indemnity form for each child/youth participant at each day of programme (use Department form only)
The Department may request applicants to participate in further safety promotion activities. Institutions interested in conducting safety promotion activities during the June/July and December holidays should complete an application on the prescribed form. Applications are invited for: • June/July school holidays, 25 June - 16 July 2018 • December school holidays, 13 December 2018 – 8 January 2019

The programme will be implemented in the following high crime priority area: Athlone, Atlantis, Belhar, Bellville South, Bishop Lavis (Bonteheuwel/Valhala Park), Cloetesville, Delft, Elsies River, Grassy Park (Lotus River), Gugulethu, Houtbay (Imizamo Yethu), Khayelitsha, Kleinvlei, Kraaifontein, Kuils River, Lentegeur, Macassar, Manenberg (Heideveldt), Mfuleni, Mitchells Plain (Tafelsig, Beacon Valley, Eastridge), Muizenberg, Nyanga, Ocean View (Masiphumelele), Paarl East, Phillipi (Hanover Park), Ravensmead (Uitsig), Saldahna Bay (including Vredenberg), Steenberg (Cafda/Lavender Hill), Strand (Broadlands), Worcester.
Religious organisation outside the geographic scope of the above identified priority areas within the Western Cape Province may also express their interest of application. It should be noted that application from non-priority area will be considered on merit and the availability of funds.
Applications for funding for the June/July & December 2018/2019 school holidays should be submitted no later than Monday, 9 April 2018. NO LATE APPLICATIONS AND DOCUMENTATION WILL BE CONSIDERED.
